Miss Professor Carrow had quite the pleased and predatory look over supper tonight. She must have caught me staring in disgust as she wolfed down her chicken- couldn't resist letting me know that while my little lady friend might be good at "dressing the part at parties" and "teaching brats how to dance the waltz," there are some witches at Hogwarts who still achieve tangible respect and recognition for their achievements.

Could it be that I have you two to thank for her putting me off my meal? I can do without boasting in the first place, but boasting with one's mouth open is particularly not up my pitch.

Well, it was not my decision, dear, but I expect this morning's post owls brought her the news that she's been selected as the Witches' Institute's 'Outstanding Career Witch Rôle Model' for the year just ended.

The presentation luncheon is next Sunday. I imagine you've at least the rest of the week to endure her smug self-assurances. Nor do I envy you the gloating sure to ensue once she actually has the plaque in her possession.

How terribly charming. I wonder what she'll wear to commemorate such a special occasion? If only we were closer I'd recommend a giant serviette- the woman does tend to make a mess when she eats. Fortunately, manners are optional for role models (certainly true in my own case).

Probably this question's better for Rod, but just what form might this gloating take in the coming weeks? Nothing that will upset the students, I hope.

Now, dear, whatever gives you the thought that your brother has had occasion to watch Alecto gloat over a recognition such as this? I'm sure I don't know why you think he could tell you what to expect.

I know my brother, and that's nefarious enough. But never you mind that, love. I'm sure that the only pleasure he'll take in seeing Alecto recognised as a "role model" is the sheer, disgusting irony of it all.

Did you know that tarnish is primarily caused by humidity and oxidation? Or, in Alecto's case, by a good deal of hot air.

When really, nothing could be further from the truth - why, I should like nothing better than to see Hogwarts free from strife. Wouldn't you?
