I think if you had said the passionate heart always flames your cold/ice/passion metaphor would have more weight. But then it would be a bit too overly poetic for my tastes.
But you'll be surprised to hear that I agree with you. The core of a person rarely changes- that's something I learned from Evan.
It sounds as if this is a fairly new realisation for you, though.
