May. 22nd, 2012 12:37 pmThat could have gone better.
For a start, having her come to Spence seemed to put certain...expectations into her head. She was dressed to the nines, as if meeting with the Lord Protector himself, and was all ready to reminisce about our days at Hogwarts together. I suppose that's what she thought I was having her over for- a nice little stroll down memory lane. Which isn't to say that she tried any of her charms on me- far from it. She spoke about Philip and her girls in glowing terms and clearly loves being the lady of the Greengrass household.
So I thought she'd turn silent, maybe even angry, when I brought up Daphne. She did look shocked for a split second, but then she tried to... it was the oddest thing, but she tried to change the subject. "Oh yes, it's true that I don't really know if Daphne is yours or Philip's, but don't trouble yourself over it, I'm not asking anything of you, Raz, and I'll see to it that Daphne doesn't, either. Now, you really must tell me where you procured this tea, it has the most exquisite bergamot flavour."
Well, not quite so abrupt as that, but you get the idea.
When I suggested that we do something to determine once and for all who Daphne's father is, she wouldn't even hear of it. Accused me of trying to "cause a disruption" in her life, and even to punish Philip, who knew nothing about any of this and never would, or so she insisted.
The only thing I can figure is that Victoriana doesn't want to know who she sired this child with. She apparently relishes the mystery, the possibility that she's got some piece of me- and getting answers would ruin that for her.
Anyway, we can discuss it more at supper. I wanted to get out the basic details to you here so that we can speak in more covert terms then. Speaking of covert- had a good long look at those transcripts this morning. See a few bits that seem... off. But I can't tell if Stint is up to something suspicious or if he's just being a pain in the arse. It's clear to me now that he's the worst type of Ravenclaw- the kind who likes to butt into everything and ask a load of questions just to see people if they can make someone flounder. So yeah, we'll compare notes.
See you soon, love.

Date: 2012-05-22 07:03 pm (UTC)Pardon. I'll behave. You don't need to hear me ranting. At least I'm sitting here on my own, waiting for Campanella to be done with someone who grabbed her for a moment, and have a moment to get my expression under control.
On the transcripts: I floated the general worry by Campanella earlier and she admits something struck her a bit odd in the meeting too, but not so much she tracked it down. Stint is very much the kind to butt into everything, but there's something in the tone of his questions that still gets at me (and the fact that if he were just trying to make things difficult for me, he didn't pick the easy ways to do that, if you see what I mean.)
Perhaps you and I can come up with something to draw him out, if he really was aiming at specific pieces of information?
In more pleasant news, I've managed the last two bits of necessary planning for Saturday, so that's something. I'm quite looking forward to spoiling you thoroughly, you know.

Date: 2012-05-22 07:58 pm (UTC)Well, that's the trouble with looking at a transcript versus being there in person. A transcript just isn't the same, is it? Can't tell a thing about tone from a transcript, but I do believe you when you say you heard something odd in his words. Seems the best way to draw him out is to give him a place where he can speak in front of lots of people while using impressive words. Likes that, doesn't he?
Heh, I'm just glad you said "spoiling" and not "doting." I'll know I'm definitely, officially old when we've moved on to "doting."

Date: 2012-05-22 08:09 pm (UTC)Stint does like the big impressive words. Not sure I want to be around him just to prove the point, mind you - I'm rather hoping he doesn't decide to show Saturday, as it is. But the June meetings might give us more data, I suppose, too.
As to the spoiling, definitely that and not doting. (I do have hopes for a bit of energetic mutually enjoyable activity, you know. In among the spoiling.)
Right. Now Campanella's teasing me about blushing.
Before I finish with her, speaking of Saturday: you'll want to pack comfy robes, your broom, and something warm to go flying in (might be a bit brisk, but worth the chill.) Plus anything you particularly want overnight, of course. I'm taking care of everything else.
Right. I should be another half hour, maybe, then ready to meet you. Love you, and looking forward to supper.

Date: 2012-05-22 08:49 pm (UTC)Well, now you've got me even more curious about this birthday venture- an actual journey involved? This does sound like spoiling. All the better if it's "mutually enjoyable."
Looking forward as well- see you in a bit.
