RABASTAN LESTRANGE
Every year there is an anonymous donation made in the name of Rabastan Lestrange to researchers working to handle depression in the case of long-term curse damage.

Andrew N.O. Nittleridge writes a series of scandalous books called the Lives of the Death Eaters. While the publisher habitually hints that more are forthcoming they confine themselves to those who have already died. Friends, family and dear enemies allege the books are full of lies and half truths. While decried by the academic community as poorly researched and unsourced they become incredibly popular with the gossip magazine reading set.

comments

I can’t sleep love. I’m sitting here looking at old photos of Harry. He’s toddling across some parlour I don’t recognise. I don’t know who took it or exactly when, but it’s probably during one of the northern campaigns. I’m just imagining what the future could bring. I’d never want to raise a kid during another War. He wasn’t my responsibility yet, but I know it was hard. Hydra and Draco are in the one or two of the scarce few I have from when they were little. They’re playing together and look happy. <strike>Probably why there are so few from then, only the ones where he looked</strike>

Our situation is so much better than things back then. It’ll have to be better for … Really it’ll have to be. <strike>But we just made Blaise</strike> <strike>That bloody</strike> <strike>After Harry chucked her over, Ptolemy made Katie find a new “sponsor”.</strike> <strike>My old friend Cal let himself be</strike> Insomnia does strange things to your mind.

The goal has been achieved, we have a Wizarding Protectorate, run by Wizards for Wizards and it is glorious. <strike>It had better be my friends’ blood is splashed every acre</strike> Are we really making the right choice?<strike>or will he be raised in not just a War but Civ</strike>

comments

How are you doing after the party? I'm sorry no one caught on earlier than they did.

There was a time that the runes around Wimbourne pitch failed. Instead of keeping their infamous seagulls out, they attracted them. The birds were just throwing themselves at us. Ugliest game I've ever played. I think the team elves just threw out all our kit and made us new ones. So we know that blokes don't always love it when birds throw themselves at us and when you don't want them it's ugly. Back in the day it happened to me more than I care to remember in my now advancing years. But I remember what it's like. If you want to talk about it, or get any suggestions from an old hand on how to handle it, you know where to find me. Any time. We'll go somewhere else or Rory'll clear out.

On a completely different broom, I'm sure you're on Harry's list. I know how close the three of you are so the offer I made to him is really for you and Hydra as well. If you want to talk about it, catch me whenever and we'll talk.

comments

Friday's sixth year class will be the application of everything we talked about today.

Please think about appropriate memories. It would be good to have several at hand to have the happiest you can conjure. Just thinking about the right memory should make you physically feel good. I find that thinking about mine makes me feel warm, as if I were sitting in front of a cracking fire.

There will be a real Dementor in the building on Friday. We are using the stadium seating classroom off the northern fifth floor corridor, so that those who are unprepared for it need not be near. If the stair leading up to the corridor is pointing the wrong direction, whang the rail and it'll swing around. All appropriate security measures will be in place.

Anyone attempting to come in and gape will be forcibly ejected. However, all NEWT level Defence students are invited, for those who might feel the need for additional practice. If you can't make the class for scheduling reasons talk to me and we should be able to arrange something before or after.

comments

Don't know if you've noticed the new pins some of your seventh years had on. They're a sign they've been entered into a contest for Our Lord's favour, an invitation into the inner circle.

I knew nothing before this morning. Tosha knew nothing. Rod knew nothing and Hydra's been included. Lucius knew nothing before being summoned to Court to be informed that much of his clerk's time will be taken up being a liaison between the competion and Our Lord himself. Each student has a sponsor - all the ones I could suss out are the latest additions to our ranks.

They've been told it will be a difficult and potentially dangerous trial, but glorious.
What in merry fucking Erebus-

I've just been sacked. From teaching. By Fathead Dolores Umbridge. So has Minerva.

Not to mentioned accused of carrying on inappropriate relations with a student! And until the "matter is resolved," I can remain in the castle only as Harry's security, so long as I keep to "minimal student contact."

Why wasn't I warned?
Wish I could include Draco on this, too. Harry - pass it along?

I appreciate that you're questioning Madam Umbridge and standing up for yourselves and your fellow students. However, I've set a bit of a poor example to you by not bothering to hide the majority of my feelings for the woman, her methods, and her interference here at the castle.

I can tell you that I'm trying to find out more about what her intentions are, and where her authority comes from, but I fear that getting that answer will mean confirming that we are, in fact, stuck with her until her meddling has run its course. I only hope that it doesn't take a serious incident to have her removed.

Until then, try not to expose your throats too much. She may wear pink and speak to you like children, but she's not as innocuous as she looks or sounds. Step lightly, but do what you can to help your peers and classmates who might fall under her wand.

comments

All right, you lot. So far I'm impressed with how you've returned to school and immediately got back into the swift pace of things. You must not have had very much fun on your hols.

Pre-Owl level Duelling Club will resume on Tuesday. Same rules apply as last time- and I mean it.

Now I've heard some grumbling from various quarters about certain new rules and restrictions about the use of Private Messages in the journals, and I do have a couple things to say on the matter.

First, would it kill you to be friendly? Nothing wrong with saying Hi to the rest of the school, in addition to your nearest and dearest.

Second, I suppose I must be getting old, because all I can think about was how we didn't have this kind of magic when I was a student, and how hard we would have been to control if we had. Which is to say- it's understanding that there's a temptation to use the journals for private gossip and the like. One of the professors we had back in my day tried to keep us from passing notes in class, to no avail. Eventually, he started making us read the notes out loud when he caught us, but that only inspired us to start writing more notes, especially ones filled with unflattering things about him. Eventually he gave up and started ignore the note-passing and, funnily enough, it lost some of its appeal and we sent fewer notes.

Just before NEWTs, I asked that professor why he stopped concerning himself, and he said "I came to my senses and realised that all my attention on the matter was doing nothing more than making you far more effective note-passers. And a little more rude, besides."

A lesson there for all of us, I think.

comments

Well, I'm finally out of that place and back here. Alright, you two?

You'll have to forgive me if I'm out of sorts. I barely know a thing about what's been going on at the school these last two weeks. Had my journal with me, but only used it for Council business. Oh, but Rory did tell me that Slytherin won their match. Well done to you both!

I'll need to get my bearings back this weekend, but next week, say, I'll have you two 'round to mine for tea and we'll get caught up.

comments

Would have slept for near fifteen hours, if I'd had opportunity.

Awake now, feeling alright, all things considered. Managed to avoid any major injury to my person this time, which is a nice change from the usual. I'm expected to help with the last bits of business here, but it won't take much longer, I hope.

I love you.
Hope to see all of you at the Demonstration between Professor Dolohov and myself tomorrow- my NEWT level students, in particular, are advised to attend, and I think those of you who regularly come 'round to duelling club will find it worthwhile as well. Mind, this is no ordinary duel, but to repeat what's already been said, a demonstration of the variety and depth available through study of Arts and Defence. In the future, Professor Dolohov and I will likely devise other ways of showing you how each of our respective fields compliment the other's.

I also want to echo the seriousness of Professor Dolohov's words on safety and discomfort. Students who find themselves overwhelmed during the demonstration will have the antechamber as a retreat, but if any of the younger students find themselves too anxious to attend, do know that you won't be penalised for remaining in your common rooms.

That said, we're also aiming to have a bit of fun with this, and I think most of you will conclude the afternoon with the feeling that it was well-spent.

After today's lessons, I'll be holed up in my quarters until tomorrow. If anyone was hoping to have a chat about their boggart or their essay on trap and curse detection, try to catch me at lunch, or else it'll have to wait until after the weekend.

comments

Couldn't make it to breakfast this morning- didn't trust myself not to stuff Dolores' head into a very full jug of pumpkin juice.

Not that I'm going to do anything of the sort. But until I can muster up my usual sort of careless ease and charm, I'll be trying to dodge her.

The thing that keeps nagging at me is where does all that nerve and confidence come from? She operates as if she fully expects everyone to bend to her will, so long as it's all presented as "helpful suggestions." Is she really so massively stupid that she expects no friction from anyone?

There's another possibility beyond that, but I'll not mention it here.

Anyroad, Cedric's asked me about meeting privately to discuss quidditch career options. See no reason to dissuade him except to stress that he ought to see it as temporary- nobody keeps their youthful skills sharp forever, even if they can manage to avoid injury. There's those blokes that think they can fly until their hair turns white- they're the ones who get into their 40s and end up hanging around at Quality Quidditch Supplies, trying to peddle off their autograph for a couple of galleons because there's nothing else they're much good for.

Blast. I might need some of those wine gums, unless Toshenka's nicked them all.

comments
